Bangalore, July 18 (UNI) Congress members in the Karnataka Legislative Council today urged the State Government to hold immediate elections to fill the posts of Council Chairman and Deputy Chairman.

Raising the issue in the House, Leader of the Opposition in the Council Veeranna Mathikatti said Congress members had served notice to both the State Government and the Chair to take measures to hold elections to fill up the vacant posts.

Officiating Chairman of the House N Thippanna informed the House that the letter sent by the Congress had been delivered to the State Government for taking action and advised the members to wait till a decision was taken.

Taking exception to the remarks, Congress member V S Ugrappa said the party had petitioned the Governor over the delay and the latter had also advised the Government on the issue. He demanded that the State Government take immediate measures to conduct elections.

Intervening in the discussion, Home Minister V S Acharya, also the leader of the House, assured that the Government would take a decision according to the rules and procedures of the House and conduct elections. He, however, refused to make any commitment on holding the elections to the vacant posts immediately.
