Bangalore, Jul 18 (UNI) Congress members in the Karantaka Leislative Council today urged the State Government to hold immediate elections to fill the posts of Chairman and Deputy Chairman in the Council.

Raising the issue in the house the opposition leader in the Council Veeranna Mathikatti said that Congress members had served notice to both State Government and the Chair to take measures to hold elections to the vacant posts in the Council.

Officiating Chairman of the house N Thippanna, who was in the chair informed the house that the letter sent by Congress party had been delivered to state government for its action and advised them to wait till a decision was taken.

Taking exception to the remarks made by Chairman, Congress member V S Ugrappa said that party had petitioned the Governor over delay and the latter had also advised the government on the issue. He demanded the state government to take immediate measures to conduct elections.

Intervening in the discussion, Home Minister Dr V S Acharya who is also the leader of the House, assured that government will take a decision according to the rules and procedures of the house and conduct elections. He however refused to make any commitment to hold the elections to the vacant posts immediately.

Other Congress members V S Sudarshan, D S Patil also spoke on the subject.
