London, July 18 : A gang of teenage robbers armed with hammers were chased off by a broom-wielding 55-year-old granny when they tried break into the shop where she works.
Ann Withers was opening the convenience store in Worle, north Somerset at 6am on July 14 when the three hooded teenagers broke in and demanded cash.
She pushed away the thieves with the 4ft plastic broom after they started to attack her boss, Guljinder Hayer. The thieves fled empty handed.
"They turned pale and ran away as soon as I started hitting them with the broom," Telegraph quoted her as saying. "They weren't going to get anything out of this shop. It was horrific the way they were hitting Guljinder round the head with the hammer.
"I was just waiting for the right time to grab the broom and take them on."
"If they ever come back it won't be a broom, it will be a baseball bat that I'm hitting them with," she added.
Mr Guljinder said, "Ann is a real hero. She was throwing the broom towards them to get them off me. She really saved the day. "
