New Delhi, Jul 18 (UNI) A 22-year-old youth allegedly died in 'police custody' after he was beaten up by a Constable of Swaroop Nagar police station in outer Delhi.
The beat Constable came, to Umesh's Timarpur in north Delhi home searching for him as someone had named him as a suspect in a robbery case, said a police official.
As Umesh was not at home he later went to meet the Constable who met him on the way where the incident took place. Umesh was perhaps beaten by him after which his condition worsened, he said, adding, ''He was rushed to the hospital where he died.'' He was neither detained nor arrested nor had be been brought to the police station, yet we have ordered an enquiry, he said, adding, ''A departmental enquiry has been instituted and an SDM enquiry requested.'' Family members said the constable took him to the 'thana' from home where he was beaten up.
After he came home his condition worsened and he was taken to the hospital where he died.
