Bangalore, Jul 17: A one-day seminar on classical status to Kannada and Telugu Languages will be held in New Delhi on July 19.
The Seminar would be organised jointly by Kannada University, Kannada Development Authority (KDA), Delhi Karnataka Sangha, New Delhi, Dravidian University and R S Telugu University.
Speaking at a meeting of representatives of Kannada Organisations and eminent writers here yesterday, KDA Chairman Mukhyamantri Chandru, MLC, said the seminar would be held to exert pressure on the Union Government to accord classical status to Kannada and Telugu languages which had over 2000 years of history.
He said the KDA had chalked out many programmes to popularise the use of Kannada in day-to-day administration in Judiciary, Executive and Legislature in Karnataka.
Stating that many of the district and trial courts in the state had started the use of Kannada in their proceedings, Mr Chandru said it required to be encouraged in all the courts, including the High Court.
The KDA has planned to honour all those judges who have delivered their judgment in Kannada at a special function,'' he added.
Opining the Kannada schools which were functioning at the border areas were in bad condition, Mr Chandru said the KDA will approach the State Government to improve infrastructure facilities in these areas.
Eminent writers and academicians and leaders of pro-Kannada organistions including Prof L S Sheshagiri Rao, Chidananda Murthy, Go Ru Channabasappa, were present at the meeting.
