Chandigarh, Jul 17 (UNI) Punjab Congress MLAs today appealed to the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) MPs to extend support to the UPA-government during the confidence vote in Parliament on July 22.
Criticising Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and SAD president Sukhbir Badal for directing their party MPs to vote with the NDA during the trust vote, the MLAs at their meeting held here today reminded the Akali MPs that Dr Manmohan Singh was the first Sikh Prime Minister of the country. The MLAs also refered to to the numerious developmental projects that had been sanctioned by Dr Singh for Punjab during the tenure of the SAD-BJP government.
The meeting attended by 38 of the 44 MLAs was presided over by Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, who is also the President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC).
Later presiding over a meeting of the District and Block Presidents of Congress Committees here Mrs Bhattal called upon her party colleagues to reach out to the common man and explain the positive aspects of the nuclear deal. She pointed out that the nuke deal was the only way out to tide over the power crisis gripping Punjab and other states of the country.
