Hisar, Jul 17 (UNI) Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) has introduced paddy transplanter under zero tillage or minimum tillage system for reducing heavy dependence on labour and diesel.

''This technology will encourage savings in labour, energy and over all cost of cultivation with same or more paddy yield that we get with puddling and manual transplanting,'' said HAU Vice Chancellor J C Katyal.

''With the introduction of this technology, the HAU has exhibited a complete portfolio of Conservation Agriculture in the rice-wheat cropping system as a whole,'' he said.

Dr Katyal said a total of 15 demonstrations conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Yamunanagar district in 2007 showed a grain yield range of 74 to 83 quintals per ha. In the current year, more than 150 exhibition plots of one acre each have been transplanted with this technique in Yamunagar district.

''This technology is good for the long run because it will allow double zero tillage that is zero till rice followed by zero till wheat and it will reduce our heavy dependence on labour and diesel which have become costly,'' he said.

Dr Katyal, who has visited these demo sites feels that this technology is good for the long run because it will allow double zero tillage, that is zero tillage of rice followed by zero tillage of wheat. It will reduce heavy dependence on labour and diesel which have become costly.

This will encourage savings in labour, energy and over all cost of cultivation with same or more paddy yield that a farmer gets with puddling and manual transplanting.
