International Experts meet at Andaman on Combating Disaster
Port Blair, Jul 17 (UNI) European Commission partners working on Disaster Preparedness Programme all over India are meeting in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to deliberate on disaster management.
The three-day programme which began yesterday, is hosted by CARE India, a humanitarian agency working at International level.
''The main mandate of the programme is to ensure that all the partners work in close coordination with each other and share their expertise and resources on issues related to Disaster Preparedness and Mitigation. Currently European Commission is funding 10 partners all over India for implementing Community Based Disaster Preparedness Programme,'' Shakeb Nabi, Project Manager of CARE in Andaman informed the media today.
The coordination meeting is organised on a monthly basis at different places where all the European Commission partners working on Disaster Preparedness share the practices and lessons learnt from their programme.
The partners also share the resources and other related material in order to avoid duplication and work in close coordination with each other.
''The first two days of the coordination meeting in Andaman comprised the field visit where CARE India's programme in the field in order to learn from what CARE is doing in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It will be followed by a one-day discussion in Port Blair where all the partners will discuss the strategy of working together in future,'' Nabi added.
