Panaji, Jul 17 (UNI) Observing that the Indo-US nuclear deal is for energy security and self-reliance of the country, Goa Pradesh Committee (GPCC) President Francisco Sardinha, MP, said, the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre was poised to win the confidence vote in Lok Sabha on July 22.
Censuring the Left parties and BJP for taking anti-nuclear deal posture, he appealed to them to review their stance in the overall interest of the country.
Interacting with mediapersons here today, Mr Sardinha, along with former Union Law Minister Ramakant Khalap, said, ideologies should not come in the way of national development particularly in power sector infrastructure.
There was no other go but to strike the deal with India's uranium resources very limited. What is wrong in importing the nuclear fuel without compromising the country's independence and sovereignty and its strategic nuclear programmes, they questioned.
Mr Khalap said, he had a dialogue with certain party leaders like former Prime Minister G D Deve Gowda, TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu and Talangana Party Chief Chandrasekhar Rao, whose MPs may change their mind to vote in favour of the confidence vote.
