New Delhi, July 17 (UNI) Delhi Power Minister A K Walia today directed Discoms to further upgrade their systems to ensure zero level breakdown in all parts of the city.
Speaking to mediapersons after chairing a weekly power review meeting at Delhi Secretariat, which was attended by Power Secretary, senior officers of Power Department, Delhi Transco and CEOs of Discoms, Dr Walia said,''it is prime responsibility of Discoms to ensure un-interrupted power supply and enhance consumers' satisfaction. They have been told to take all possible measures in this direction.'' Dr Walia reminded them that their functioning should not reflect their commercial interests as foremost. They have much more to contribute as their social responsibility.
It was stated in the meeting that the city-government will spare an amount of Rs 225 crore per annum to meet subsidy on restricting monthly consumption up to 150/200 units during non-peak and peak months. It was reported that 14.26 lakh out of 32 lakh consumers availed subsidised electricity on consumption up to 200 units per month during peak months of May and June.
It is evident that 45 per cent consumers were able to restrict their consumption, which is a big boost to power conservation.
Dr. Walia stated that out of nine lakh consumers of NDPL three lakh, out of 13 lakh of BRPL six lakh and out of 9.75 lakh consumers of the BYPL 5.26 lakh consumers availed this opportunity offered by the city-government.
Advising electricity consumers in the Capital-city to restrict their monthly electricity consumption up to 200 units in peak months to avail concession of Rs.200 in their monthly bills, Dr Walia said it is possible with application of CFL, Solar Water Heater, Electronic Choke and ISI appliances.
