Chennai, July 17 (UNI) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) petitioned the Chennai City Police Commissioner against the skimpy attire worn by women players in the World Series Beach Volleyball Challenge, which began here today.
BJP State Vice-President Lalitha Subhash submitted a petition to city Police Commissioner R Sekar, alleging that allowing women to play in skimpy costumes posed a threat to Tamil culture.
She alleged that glamour had taken precedence over sports, giving a go by to Tamil culture.
''If a proper dress code is not followed, keeping in line with the Tamil tradition and culture, then the police should take steps to ban conduct of the event,'' she demanded.
The Commissioner promised the BJP that he would look into the complaint.
