Shillong, Jul 15 (UNI) Opposing the appointment of a new chairperson of Meghalaya State Women Commission (SWC), 52 women organisations under the banner of the Synjuk Ki Seng Longkmie (SKSL) today threatened to organise a rally.

Two days ago, the state government appointed Susanna Marak as SWC chairperson, based on the recommendation of the Search and Select Committee (SSC) with state Social Welfare Minister Nimarson Momin as its convener to shortlist the names for reconstituting the SWC.

'' The SSC is Shillong-centric and does not represent all women in state, and for that we will not recognise this new commission, '' SKSL president Lucratia Laloo told reporters here.

The SKSL had been demanding that the government retain outgoing SWC chairperson Biloris Lyndem as she had rendered an excellent work during her three-year tenure.

Today, SKSL leaders called on Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home H S Lyngdoh and Urban Affairs Minister Paul Lyngdoh, protesting the appointment of the chairperson.

'' They have expressed their disenchantment with the appointment of Marak and threatened to take out a rally, '' Mr Lyngdoh told reporters, even as he revealed that he would be of little help to them to sort out the matter as the appointments were made by the Chief Minister.

The SKSL had also met Governor Ranjit Shekar Mooshahary and handed over a memorandum, demanding the retention of Ms Lyndem.
