Seminar at New Delhi for Classical status to Kannada and Telgu
Bangalore, Jul 16 (UNI) A one-day Seminar on Classical Status to Kannada and Telugu Languages will be held in National Capital New Delhi on July 19, The Seminar was organised jointly by Kannada University, Hampi, Kannada Development Authority (KDA), Delhi Karnataka Sangha, New Delhi, Dravidian University, Kuppam and R S Telugu University, Hyderabad.
Speaking at a meeting of representatives of Kannada Organisations and eminent writers here today KDA Chairman Mukhyamantri Chandru, Mlc said that the Seminar was held to bring pressure on the Union Government to accord Classical status to Kannada and Telugu languages which has over 2000 years history.
He said that has chalked out many programme to popularise the use of Kannada in day-today administration in Judiciary, Executive and Legislature in Karnataka.
Stating that many of the district and trial courts in the state have started the use of Kannada in their proceedings, Mr Chandru said that it needs to be encouraged in all the courts including High Court. "KDA has planned to honour all those Judges who have delivered their judgment in Kannada at a special function," he added.
Opining that the Kannada schools which were functioning at the border areas were in bad condition, Mr Chandru said that KDA will approach the State Government to improve infrastructure facilities in these areas.
Eminent writers and academicians and leaders of pro-Kannada organistions including Prof L S Sheshagiri Rao, Chidananda Murthy, Go Ru Channabasappa, were present in the meeting.
