One militant, a police killed in north Kashmir
{image-kashmir map_16072008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Srinagar, Jul 16: A militant and a jawan of Jammu and Kashmir police were killed in an ongoing encounter in north Kashmir since last evening, official sources said on Wednesday, July 16.
Security forces launched a joint operation at village Warpora, Sopore, 55 km from here in north Kashmir district of Baramulla following a tip off about the presence of militants. During the operation militants hiding in a house opened fire and also hurled grenades. Security forces further tightened the cordoned around the house. Militants, reportedly two to three in number, continued firing when asked to surrender, sources said adding, residents in the near by houses were rescued. Intermitted firing between hold up militants and security forces continued throughout the night.
A fierce gun battle ensued early this morning when security forces tried to storm the house. So far a militant and a police jawan were killed, sources said adding the operation was still going on.
