Demonstrations to mark Jammu bandh
Jammu, Jul 16 (UNI) Amid anti-Governor and anti-Chief Minister slogans hundreds of protestors today staged demonstrations in different parts of the winter capital to mark the Jammu bandh.
Responding to the bandh call, given by the Shri Amarnath Yatra Sangarsh Samiti, the agitators took out protest rallies in and around the city and burnt effigies of politicians, throwing life out of gear.
Supported by social, political and religious organisations, the Samiti was demanding a revocation of the Amarnath land transfer deal.
Shutters were down and offices witnessed thin attendance in both government and corporate sectors.
Shouting slogans against the Congress and the PDP, the protesters burnt effigies of Vohra, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
''There were no major clashes between police and public in the areas where demonstrations were held and the situation was reportedly peaceful,'' a senior police official told UNI.
Massive protest rallies and demonstrations were also staged in Samba, Kathua and Udhampur districts of Jammu region as the bandh was observed.
Public transport was also affected as no vehicle was allowed to ply on the roads.
