Mumbai, July 16 (UNI) A special MCOCA court today extended till July 25, police custody of the three persons accused in the criminal conspiracy to eliminate Matka King Suresh Bhagat, including his wife Jaya Bhagat.
Ms Jaya, her son Hitesh Bhagat and Kiran Poojari were booked under the stringent MCOCA for their alleged role in conspiring the road accident, in which Bhagat was killed last month.
According to crime branch sources, motive of the accused was to gain control over the matka business in the city and get financial benefit out of it.
Crime Branch sleuths have recovered Rs 23.50 lakh from co-accused Harish Rama Mandvilkar and Rs 11 lakh from Hitesh.
The conspiracy was chalked out between the contract killers, Jaya and other co-accused early this year, the sources said.
Mandvilkar had allegedly awarded a ''Supari'' (contract) to a driver, Pravin Shetty, to run over and kill Suresh Bhagat and make the murder appear as a road accident.
Mandvilkar had allegedly been contracted by one Subhash Roge to commit the crime at a contract of Rs 45 lakh. Roge and Jaya were handling only the ''Kalyan matka'' business, the sources said.
It may be recalled that around three weeks before the accident, Suresh had filed a complaint saying he feared a threat to his life.
