Chandigarh, Jul 16 (UNI) The Haryana Punjabi Sahitya Akademi has decided to confer 'Haryana Punjabi Gaurav Puraskaar' with Rs 1.25 lakh cash prize to an outstanding Punjabi writer for making significant contribution in the field of Punjabi language, literature and culture from the current financial year.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Haryana Punjabi Sahitya Akademi, which was held under the chairmanship of Haryana Education and Transport Minister Mange Ram Gupta here yesterday.
Mr Gupta said all possible assistance would be provided by the Haryana government to the Akademi for development of Punjabi language, literature and culture.
It was decided in the meeting that Akademi would sent 10 to 15 writers every year for participation in writing competitions at national or international level.
Poetry, story and writing competitions would also be organised at college and university level.
The books written by eminent writers would be published in Punjabi language after translation.
