US, UK top list of foreign tourists to India
New Delhi, July 15 (UNI) The United States of America and the United Kingdom were the top two tourist generating markets for India in 2007.
As many as 5,081,504 foreign tourists visited the country in 2007.
Out of which, 799,062 were from the US, constituting the highest of 15.72 per cent of the total arrivals.
The United Kingdom was close second behind the USA with 796,191 tourists, constituting 15.67 per cent.
Other top tourist generating markets for India during the last year were : Bangladesh, Canada, France, Sri Lanka, Germany, Japan, Australia and Malaysia.
Tourism Ministry sources said here today that there was a growth of 11.5 per cent in the foreign tourist arrivals during January-May this year as compared to the corresponding period last year.
The Foreign Exchange Earning during January-May this year was Rs 21,963 crores, recording a growth of 16.1 per cent as compared to the same period in 2007.
