Chandigarh, Jul 15 (UNI) Haryana Governor A R Kidwai today called for making village-wise lists of martyrs of Haryana who had made supreme sacrifices during the freedom struggle.
Such lists, he said, should be displayed on plaques in parks or public places in every village of the state so as to inspire the coming generations.
The Governor was speaking at a book release function held at Haryana Raj Bhavan in which three books were released.
These books were 'The Roll of Honour : Haryana's Martyrs of 1857, Sir Chhotu Ram: The Last Days and 'Sh Matu Ram: A Biography' edited, compiled and written by the noted historian of Haryana Prof K C Yadav, Director, Centre for Study of Haryana History, Culture and Social Development, HIPA. Haryana Finance Minister Birender Singh was also present.
Dr Kidwai said that for keeping alive the high tradition of sacrifice of the martyrs, memorials should also be constructed in their respective villages so that the youth could get inspiration from their brave deeds done in the service of the nation.
''The nations remain alive on the basis of the supreme sacrifices made by the freedom fighters and the martyrs,'' the Governor said.
