Intel launches Centrino 2 processors
New Delhi, Jul 15 (UNI) After the success of its 'Centrino' mobile processors, Intel Corporation today launched a new platform, Centrino 2, claiming it is faster and has better graphics with a longer battery life.
''The new processors are 1.7 times faster and also efficient on energy. These have been developed keeping in mind the demand for High Definition viewing and gaming experience,'' Intel Director (Sales-South Asia) R Ravichandran told reporters here.
The company today launched five processors and has nine more in the offing in the next 90 days.
About 63 per cent of the notebooks sold in India are powered by Intel processors.
Asked if it would phase out the existing Centrino processors, Mr Ravichandran said it would happen eventually. ''If the customer finds better features at a competent price, he will go in for the newest technology. Then, when the demand goes down, we will take the call,'' he said.
The processors will be soon available in the markets soon.
For businesses, the company has launched Centrino 2 with vPro technology offering manageability and security options.
Talking to UNI, Lenovo Product Manager (Consumer) Anand Subramanium said the Centrino 2-powered notebooks would be available in the market by August-end. ''The price is a little difficult to quote now. It would depend on the specifications of the notebook, but it will be competent with the existing models,'' he said.
Later this year, Intel will also begin shipping its combined WiMAX/WiFi module as a part of its Link 5050 Series. It will wait for the policy to be put in place before introduing the range here.
It also unveiled its new Mobile Intel 45 Express Chipset and wireless Intel WiFi Link 5000 series with the laptops arriving by August.
