Deshprabhu urges Goa CM to start aviation-related ITI at Mopa

Panaji, Jul 15 (UNI) Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) spokesman Jitendra Deshprabhu today urged Chief Minister Digamber Kamat to open an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) related to aviation courses at Pernem in North Goa, where construction of an international airport at Mopa is proposed.

Interacting with mediapersons here, Mr Deshprabhu complimented chief minister for presenting a high-power committee report to Prime Minister yesterday in favour of the airport.

He said the opening of an aviation-related ITI will go a long way to help generatate employment to lot of people in the state, which is expected to witness a tourist boom, both domestic and foreign.

The airport at Mopa is the need of the hour to improve the commericial fabric of the state. In the next 12 years, 16 million tourists, both international and domestic, are expected to visit the state, he said.

The Konkan Railway will also start shuttle services from airport to tourist areas in the state, he informed.

It is also estimated that 7,000 people will directly and indirectly be employed at the proposed airport, opening new vistas for self employment in various fields like trasporatation, petroleum dearlership, road networking and many tourism-related projects, he added.
