Kolkata, Jul 14 (UNI) If everything goes as planned, Sourav Ganguly might don a cap in competitive soccer after his return from Sri Lanka.
Chirag, a computer company who have Ganguly as their brand ambassador and has fielded a team - Chirag United in the eight-team domestic Kolkata premier league, is planning to field the former India captain after his return from the Island nation.
Reports in the local media for the past two days have quoted Chirag boss Kaustav Roy as saying Ganguly would don Chirag United's shirt, may be in the Kolkata football league or in the I-League, the country's top club football league beginning in September.
Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, among others, are playing in the Kolkata Premier League that concludes at end-August.
Roy said Ganguly, before playing for the side, will have to sign papers to formalise norms under All India Football Federation (AIFF), India's supreme football body.
Roy said Sourav, a household name in Bengal, would create massive support in promotion of football.
Ganguly yesterday flew to Chennai to join India's camp.
India plays three Test series beginning July 23 in Sri Lanka.
Sourav Ganguly was quite impressive whenever he played in competitive football at school level or in exhibitions when he was leading India in cricket.
