PCB not to permit players to play in IPL if it clashes with Oz series

By Staff

Lahore, July 14 : The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced that it won't allow its players to participate in the next year's edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) if it clashed with the rescheduled home series against Australia which was 'postponed' early this year after the Aussies refused to play in the country citing security reasons.

Brushing aside any possibility of a Sri Lanka type situation where cricketers were on a collision course with their cricket board over their proposed England tour during IPL season, a PCB spokesman said that a domestic tournament IPL "cannot take precedence over international commitment".

"We don't see any confrontation with the players over the clash of dates of the IPL with the Australian tour. IPL is a domestic tournament. International commitments take precedence over the domestic tournaments and IPL is no exception," the Daily Times quoted the spokesman as saying.

He added: "We will work strictly under a principle which has been decided at the International Cricket Council (ICC) level. Obviously the home series against Australia is very important for us and nothing will take precedence over it."
