Hyderabad, July 14 (UNI) All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretary In-charge of party affairs in Andhra Pradesh M Veerappa Moily today called upon the party cadre to get actively involved in a membership drive to strengthen the party in the state and prepare for the coming Lok Sabha elections.

Launching the membership drive at the party headquarters Gandhi Bhavan here, he said all the Ministers, MPs, MLAs and other leaders of the party should actively participate in the programme to achieve the target of 50 lakh set by the APCC.

The AICC had chalked out a programme --Gandhi March --to mobilise 40,000 to 50,000 party workers in each district and this was implemented in two districts in Karnataka, which gave good results.

Appreciating Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy for taking the state on a progressive path, he claimed that the state stood number one in the country in plan and non-plan expenditure.

The Chief Minister, who was present, said the party cadre should highlight the government's welfare schemes to the people and gain their confidence.

APCC President D Srinivas, who also spoke, said the membership drive would start in all the districts from July 21 and in the mandal level from July 28 and it would be completed before September 15.
