India blank Singapore 6-0; advances to semi-final of Junior Asia Cup

Hyderabad, Jul 14 (UNI) Continuing its winning spree, defending champion India booked a semi-final clash with arch-rivals Pakistan as it blanked Singapore 6-0 in the 6th Junior Asia Cup hockey tournament at the Gachibowli stadium here tonight.

India scored three goals in each half as drag-flicker Diwakar Ram (31st,64th,67th minutes) struck thrice, while Roshan Minz (25th), SV Sunil (26th) and Gurwinder Singh Chandi (61st) helped him to increse the victory margin.

In a pool B match, Pakistan also moved into the semi-finals by defeating Bangladeh 8-2.

Abdul Haseem Khan, Shafqat Rasool, Muhamad Zubair scored two each, while Inayat Uliah, Kashif Ali scored a goal each for Pakstian. For Bangladesh Ashaduzzaman Chandan and Iqbal Nadir were the two goal scorers.

Though India played an attacking game, they missed several penalty corners that came their their way, but the Singapore goalkeeper Maheswaran Thangapal showed some great skills and commitment to thwart India to increse the victory margin.

In the 25th minute Roshan scored the first goal for India through a pass from Sunil. In the very next minute, Sunil scored another goal for and in 31st minute drag-flicker Diwakar Ram sounded the post by converting a penalty corner to make it 3-0 in the first half.

Gurwinder Singh Chandi increased the score for india by sounding the board in the 61st minute.

Penalty corner specialist Diwakar Ram converted two penalty corners in the 64th and 67th minute as India led 6-0.

Indians could have easily scored more goals, had they made use of the opportunities which went begging on most of the ocassions.

The hosts were awarded 13 penalty corners - five in first half and eight in second half- but could make use of only three of them.

In an another pool A match, Japan beat Malaysia 3-1. Ken Yoshikawa scored two goals and Ryota Kubo banged it in once for the winning team, while Muhammad Marhan Mohd Jalil scored the lone goal for Malaysia.

Korea, too, registered a win beating Oman 11-0 in an almost one-sided match. Kang Moon Kyu of Korea scored three goals followed by Seo Jun Su, Im Kyoung Ju two, Jeon Byung Jin who scored two goals each and Lim Wo Geun, Bae Jong Suk had a goal each to their name.
