Bhopal, Jul 14 (UNI) A debt-ridden farmer today attempted to commit suicide by consuming pesticide near the Chief Minister's residence in the state capital, police said.
Katni district's Ligri village-resident Ujjyarilal Kushwah (24) was rushed to Hamidia hospital where his condition was stated to be out of danger.
Ujjyarilal's father had taken a loan of Rs 80,000 from a money lender to purchase a land. After his father's death, Ujjyarilal was unable to repay the amount and was consequently not getting possession of the land. He was allegedly not getting support from the Revenue department as well.
He came to meet the Chief Minister to discuss his problem but did not get success. So, he took the step.
In separate statements issued here today, Leader of Opposition Jamuna Devi and state Congress President Suresh Pachouri alleged that a handicap youth went to the CM for help but the latter could not meet him.
Ms Devi visited the youth at the hospital.
