Panaji, July 14 (UNI) Goa's Commissioner for NRI Affairs Eduardo Faleiro has said Konkani writers in Roman script should have access to all facilities and encouragement on a par with those writing Konkani in Devanagari.
These incentives include awards of the Sahitya Akademi, representation in literary bodies and financial assistance, he said.
Releasing a Konkani monthly illustrated magazine ''Goykar - The Goan Identity'' edited by former speaker Tomazinho Cardozo at Secretariat here today, Mr Faleiro complimented the author for bringing out new Konkani magazine in Roman script.
He said that despite all difficulties, newspapers and magazines in Roman Konkani have wide readership across Goa.
President of the Goa Konkani Akademi Pundalik Narayan Naik pointed out that the Konkani Akademi had been extending all the facilities to the writers in the Konkani Roman script on par with writers in the Devanagari script.
Dalgado Konkani Akademi president Premanand Lotliker said there was not only need of readers but good writers to take the language to greater heights.
Mr Prabhakar Tendulkar, who edited a weekly named ''Goykar'' in 1979 and which played a stellar role in creating awareness among the Konkani masses during the Konkani agitation, also attended the function.
