London, July 14 : Cops had to be called in when 8,000 people showed up to bare their bottoms at passing trains during a mass "mooning" event in the US.
The California town of Laguna Niguel has been holding the annual "Mooning Amtrak" celebration for the past 29 years.
For the first time however, about 50 policemen had to be called in to put a stop to the event - because people were showing more than just their bottoms.
Jim Amormino, a police spokesman, said the free flowing liquor had some people removing all their clothes, with women lifting their tops to flash passing trains, reports the Telegraph
The bottom baring tradition began in 1979 when a drinker at the nearby Mugs Away Saloon told his pals that he would stand their drinks if they went out to the railway line and mooned the next train. As it turns out, the challenge was readily accepted and it's now an annual event held on the second Saturday in July.
What's more is that it even comes with a website, moonamtrak.org.
The website however, warns people that there is "no longer a volunteer to buy free drinks for thousands of "Mooners"."
Organisers of the event also inform participants it is "okay" to "decorate your butt", while encouraging obese attendees to come: "Yes yes, please 'moon' with us. We need people like you for the extra high intensity mooning you can provide."
Also on the website is a disclaimer that states that "attending this event may be hazardous due to the large concentration of silly people".
It adds: "There is no one to sue. No one is carrying public liability insurance for this. Besides, would any insurance underwriter insure an event called 'Mooning Amtrak'?"
