Phagwara, Jul 13 (UNI) The Punjab Police busted an inter state gang of drug smugglers, arresting four of its members and recovering 10 quintals poppy husk from them.
Giving details today, DSP Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh said that the alleged accused who were on two vehicles were intercepted bby a police patrol party near Hadiabad village on Phagwara-Jandiala road this afternoon. On search of their vehicles, the poppy husk stuffed in bags was found, he said while indicating that the value of the seized material was around Rs 13 lakh.
The occupants in the two vehicles were later identified as Dilbagh Singh alias Baagga, Varinderpal Singh and Ajit Singh, all of Reharrwan village in Jalandhar district and Pritam Singh of Chhapar village in Ludhiana district. They were all later arrested under the NDPS act.
The gang used to purchase poppy husk from Rajasthan or Madhya Pradesh and sell it in Punjab at almost twice the rate.
