Financial assistance to turmeric growers in Mizoram

Aizawl, Jul 13 (UNI) As many as 170 families of turmeric growers has been given Rs 4210 each as financial assistance.

Official sources here today said that the relief amounts were handed over by the Mizoram Farmers' Union in collaboration with Spices Board on Saturday.

Present on the occassion state's principal secretary Vanhela Pachuau expressed concern over the rampant increase of corruption at all levels, sources said adding he also urged the farmers who have received the said relief amounts and all concerned to maintain integrity and honesty in all walks of life.

Also speaking on the occasion, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development General manager, Aizawl branch, P C Sahoo stated that there is a dire need to evolve more effective system of coordination amongst the farmers to promote their products.

He also reiterated that the bank is committed for agriculture loans to the farmers.

As many as 250 families are growing turmeric with the assistance of AMFU and atleast 14 villages have received financial assistance so far, official sources confirmed.
