Abucted 7-year old boy's body found in rivulet

Kapurthala, Jul 13 (UNI) The body of seven-year-old Puneet Pal Singh, son of an NRI was found floating in the Kanjali rivulet near here today.

The boy was abducted by Manvir Singh, a Special Police Officer (SPO) from the Model Town locality here on July 11.

City DSP Sukhdev Singh Chinna told newspersons today that the SPO after abducting the boy took him on his scooter to the Kanjali rivulet and threw him in it. The DSP said from the appearance of the body it seemed that the boy was first strangulated and then thrown into the rivulet.

However the exact details would emerge only after post mortem report, the police officer indicated.

Mr China said that incidentally the SPO was arrested by the Kartarpur police yesterday when he tried to flee with a car belonging to another NRI. He was arrested after the car met with an accident.

On preliminary interrogation, the SPO told the police tha the had murdered the boy and thrown his body in the Kanjali rivulet, from where the police recovered it. The police suspect that the crime could be linked to the relationship the SPO maintained with the boys mother.

The SPO was a frequent visitor to the Model Town house of NRI Sukhwinder Pal Singh from where the boy was abducted. The NRI is presently in Spain and he was a close friend of the SPO.
