TN: Dist admin to ensure more shops at US
Pudukkottai, Jul 12: P Selvam, Secetary, Small Scale Industries, Government of Tamil Nadu, had directed the Pudukkottai District administration to take steps to construct additional shops at the 'Uzhavar Sandhai'(US) in the town to accommodate more farmer-vendors.
Mr Selvam, who is also a Monitoring Officer for the district, inspected the market yesterday and listened to the Vendors' demand for construction of additional shops.
The Vendors said the public response to the market was overwhelming, justifying the need for additional shops.
The officer urged the District Collector Reeta Harish Thakkar to initiate action by utilising the available space at the campus.
Mr Selvam also inspected the work on the underground drainage scheme being executed at Bose Nagar in the town and other health care programmes at Tiruvarankulam, near here. He also inspected a few works being executed under the National Rural Employment Guarantee (NREG)scheme and 'Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam' in Maanjan Viduthi and Mazhavarayanpatti.
The Collector said women beneficiaries outnumbered men under the NREGS work at Veppankudi village. As many as 1,698 women and 644 men were recruited in the programme.
