K'taka government mulls forming ten new taluks
Udupi, July 12 (UNI) Karnataka Home Minister V S Acharya today said the state government was contemplating forming of at least ten new taluks under the reorganisation of taluks.
The government was studying the recommendations made by the Hundekar and Gaddigoudar Committees on reorganization of taluks, he said.
Speaking to reporters at Bramhavara in the district he said that Bramhavar and Byndoor in Kundapura taluks would be taken up for creating new taluks among the formation of first ten taluks in the first stage.
He said that Gaddigowder Committee had recommended formation of 30 new taluks based on the population and rate of growth. However, out of 30 taluks recommended, only one new taluk - Bangalore (South) had been formed.
Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa during the electioneering had promised the people of Bramhavar and Byndoor that his government would take up steps to form these two taluks in two month after the formation of the new government.
He said that the chief minister however, had sought public opinion from the elected representative and the general public from the respective area before taking final decision on the formation of the new taluk.
