Kottayam, Jul 12: Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan today said a new 'Police Act' would come into effect from the next year.
Inaugurating the 'Delegates Session' of the 21st State Conference of the Kerala Police Officers' Association here, he said the Home Department had prepared a draft in this regard and would be submitted to the Law Department.
The Bill would be introduced in the next session of the Assembly and implemented by 2009.
Mr Balakrishnan also said six new police stations with all facilities would be opened this year.
As part of improving basic facilities, the government had taken steps to reconstruct old police stations, he said.
The telecommunication system of the police department would also be modernised, he added.
