Fire Brigade Dept to acquire mistfoam to fight fires in Mumbai
Mumbai, Jul 12 (UNI) Mumbai Fire Brigade will now acquire the mistfoam technology to fight fires in the city.
Speaking to reporters here today, Assisstant Fire Officer P D Karkopikar said a proposal for the same was passed by the Standing Committee last week. The new technology will help the Fire Brigade department to fight fires in an efficient manner and reduce the consumption of water and manpower in fighting fire.
''Big fires can be controlled with a small amount of mist foam and many western countries use it in case of fire, which now has been acquired by us,'' he said.
The Fire Brigade also wanted to acquire a fire-fighting chemical 'bullet', which can be used to fight fires caused by chemicals and a single bullet fired can dispel a big fire, he informed.
''Each bullet costs around Rs 17,000 each and the fire brigade will opt for it once the cost comes down,'' said Mr Karkopikar.
The Standing Committee had also approved a proposal for acquisition of safety outfits for the fire-fighting personnel. It had passed a proposal of Rs 18 crore for the mistfoam and the safety outfits, he added.
