CPI to lay seige to Sri Lanka Dy HC office on Jul 30
Chennai, Jul 12 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (CPI) will lay siege to the office of Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission here on July 30 to condemn the frequent killings of Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Lankan Navy.
In a statement here, CPI State Secretary D Pandian condemned the killing of two fishermen from Nagapattinam by the Lankan navy near Kodiakkarai in the high seas early today and said such incidents had become a routine affair.
Mr Pandian said the boat was given to Murali, a tsunami victim, and he along with Asan (25) and Narayanasamy (20) were fishing near the Kodiakkarai adjacent to the ships, which were involved in dredging operations under the Sethusamudram Shipping Channel Project(SSCP), when the Lankan Navy had attacked the fishermen.
Urging the Indian Government to find a lasting solution by raking up the issue in the SAARC conference to be held in Colombo, he said the CPI would lay siege to the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission here, condemning the Lankan Government for turning a blind eye to such incidents.
