CBI being selectively misused by Congress: Venkaiah
New Delhi, Jul 12 (UNI) Close on the heels of the CBI chargesheet in the Supreme Court in the disproportionate assets case of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, the BJP today accused the ruling UPA of selectively misusing the Central investigative agency against her after the Samajwadi Party came close to Congress.
Asked about his reaction on the chargesheet filed by the CBI, Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu said that it had a trait of the Congress to always misuse and selectively target the opponents and bail out supporters. When Mayawati was supporting the Centre, it was 'silent but turned violent' after the BSP withdrew its support to the UPA and the Samajwadi Party came closer.
''Selective use of the CBI to target ministers and supporters is very much evident of this,'' he said.
Asked if the BJP's soft attitude towards Mayawati was any indication that the BJP and BSP would contest in the coming Lok Sabha elections together in Uttar Pradesh, Mr Naidu retorted, ''We are the fighting polls on our own strength.'' In a related development, the BJP Election Committee, which met this morning to finalise the candidates for the next Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh, preferred to accept the plea of the state BJP that more time was needed to shortlist and choose the final nominees in the 80 Lok Sabha seats. The state is the biggest in the country, both in terms of geography as well as the numbers of voters.
