TSPCB accused of triggering panic on BTS in Tripura
Agartala, Jul 11 (UNI) Major cellular and mobile telephone service providers have accused the Tripura State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB) of triggering panic by issuing public notification regarding health impact of Base Tower Station (BTS) in the state.
Terming the move as 'unscientific and unethical interference' on the telecommunication network expansion, telecom service providers-BSNL, Reliance Mobile, Airtel and Aircel - have criticised TSPCB.
The TSPCB has imposed restrictions on setting up BTS for mobile phones, fearing that the radiation is harmful for humans. It has asked the service providers to obtain prior permission from the board for setting up the stations, besides undergoing noise testing of generators last week.
The TSPCB had neither conducted any study on the effect of radiation from BTS on human health nor managed to produce any solid scientific proof in this regard, BSNL officials today alleged.
''The board has just sought legal clarification and scientific explanation from the Central Pollution Control Board about radioactivity following public complaints,'' they informed.
The officials claimed that no state government in the country has made such a move so far, without obtaining any conclusion from the international scientists community.
