Lucknow, Jul 11 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh police today defended its officials for the lapses in the investigation and tarnishing the image of the Talwar family in the Aarushi murder case with claiming that Rajesh Talwar was yet to be given a clean chit by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
''The CBI is yet to give a clean chit to Rajesh Talwar, Aarushi's father, in the case even as they have claimed that no evidence has been found against the Talwar family,'' Inspector General of Police (IG) (Law and Order) Bhanu Pratap Singh said, while talking to mediapersons here.
''The Noida police has not alleged anything against the Talwar family in the case diary, however, anything on the matter could only be said after CBI files the chargesheet,'' he said.
Defending the investigation of Noida police into the case, Mr Singh said that the case was handed over to the CBI when the state police was in the middle of the investigation. ''Had the CBI given more time, the case would have been solved soon, he claimed.'' When asked about the controversial statements made by senior police officials against the character of Aarushi and the Talwar family, Mr Singh said,''Court will decide on the matter and he would not be able to comment as the issue was sub-judice.'' Earlier, during the investigation in the Aarushi-Hemraj murder case, then IG of Meerut Gurudarshan Singh and DIG P C Meena had alleged illicit relationship between Aarushi and Hemraj (the domestic help), while Noida SP Satish Ganesh had said that the murder was an 'honour killing.' The IG further denied that CBI had made any charges against the UP police during their press conference in New Delhi today.
Mr Singh, to a poser if UP police officials would be punished for diverting the investigation into the case, said the government can take decision only after the chargesheet was submitted and the Court asks for it.
