New Delhi, Jul 11 (UNI) Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh today suggested that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh intervene in the ongoing feud between the Ambani brothers, Anil and Mukesh, in the interest of the millions of shareholders and the nation's economy.

This was necessary as the Ambanis were not merely running their respective business conglomerates, but were also responsible for the wellbeing of the large number of investors and played a significant role in the economy, Mr Amar Singh told CNN-IBN news channel.

He was responding to a question on whether he could bring about a rapprochement between the two brothers the way he brought his party and the Congress together following the withdrawal of support by the Left on the Indo-US nuclear deal.

Mr Singh said he was nobody to interfere in the family matter of the Ambani brothers, but quickly added that the Prime Minister was the right person for such an attempt in the interest of the nation.

The SP leader, however, took exception to Mr Mukesh Ambani's attempt to stall his brother's bid to acquire South Africa's telecom major MTN.

Mr Anil Ambani has been a Member of Parliament belonging to the SP.
