Murder accused gets death sentence

Gurdaspur, Jul 11 (UNI) A local court today awarded death sentence to an accused in a murder case.

Pronouncing the judgement here, Additional Sessions Judge Harpreet Kaur held Chaman Lal, a resident of Narot in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh guilty for the murder of Uttam Singh, a resident of Ranipur Jhuggiwal village. The Judge then handed out the death sentence to the accused.

According to the FIR registered at Shahpur Kandi police station in February, 2002, Chaman Lal alongwith five of his associates had gone to the house of Uttam Singh with the motive to commit robbery.

However Uttam Singh was killed when he tried to resist the robbers.

The case against Chaman Lal and his associates was registered under sections 302, 396, 149 and 34 IPC.

However the court on July 7 acquitted the five associates of the main accused and kept its judgement reserved for today in the case of Chaman Lal.
