Sambalpur, Jul 11(UNI) Police today arrested a couple on charges of kidnapping a minor girl, who was also rescued two days after her abduction for ransom.
Police said the accused kidnapper, Chandan Kumar, a neighbour and business partner of Rabindra Das of Brajarajnagar area in Jharsuguda district, had abducted Ria, the minor daughter of Rabindra, two days back following a dispute over money. He demanded Rs five lakh and a car for her release.
Rabindra was first asked on phone to come to Rourkela and then to Sundergarh, Jhrsuguda and finally to Samblpur to pay the cash by the captor of the girl.
Later Rabindra with the help of police located Chandan near the Laxmi talkies chowk here. While Rabindra was handing over the bag containing the money, policemen in civil dress led by Inspector Suresh Nayak overpowered on him.
Later police arrested Chandan's wife Punam from a nearby hotel and rescued the child.
However, an accomplice of Chandan managed to escape from the spot.
Raids were on to nab him soon, police said.
During interrogation Chandan told police that he had given money to Rabindra for business but when he did not return the money on time he abducted her daughter. But Rabindra denied the allegation.
