By Staff

Newport, US, Jul 11 (UNI) Indian Davis Cupper Rohan Bopanna crashed out of the Hall of Fame Tennis Championships after suffering a straight sets defeat at the hands of compatriot Prakash Amritraj in the quarter-finals here.

The tall Coorgi was outplayed 4-6, 3-6 by his wildcard Davis Cup teammate.

The in-form Bopanna was in sublime form in the tournament, upsetting top seeded American Mardy Fish in straight sets in the second round.

Amritraj will take on Canadian Frank Dancevi in the last four stage. Dancevi downed fourth seeded Russian Igor Kunitsyn 7-5 6-3 in the other quarterfinal.

Bopanna, however, is still going strong in the doubles competition.

He and his partner Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi of Pakistan pipped South African Kevin Anderson and American James Cerretanu 7-6 (4), 3-6, 10-7 to enter the semifinals.

The fourth seeded Indo-Pak duo will clash with the winners of the tie between wildcards Amritraj and Luxumberg's Gilles Muller and Rik De Voest (South Africa) and Ashley Fisher (Australia).
