Beed, Jul 11 (UNI) A quality control inspector in the agricultural department was today caught red-handed by the anti-corruption bureau sleuths here while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000.
Gangadhar Thorat, the quality control inspector, was arrested following a complaint lodged by Masalgaon Taluka Agricultural Good Sellers Association president Ashok Shejul.
Shejul owns the Gurukrupa Krushi Seva Kendra and Thorat had allegedly demanded Rs 50,000 from him. Thorat had accused Shejul of selling low quality goods and had demanded the amount in order to suppress the case. The demand was later scaled down to Rs 25,000.
Shejul agreed to pay up the amount but lodged a complaint with the anti corruption bureau simultaneously.
Acting on the complaint, the ACB sleuths laid a trap today and nabbed Thorat while accepting the amount in a hotel, ACB DySP Yunus Shaikh told UNI.
