Sensex trade flat in the opening session

{image-sensex, big_10072008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Mumbai, Jul 10: Sensex of Bombay Stock Exchange was trading on flat note moving with marginal gap between positive and negative amid choppy session in the opening trade on Thursday, July 10.

At an intra-day high, it touched 14,046.82 points, gaining 82.56 points in early trade and touched a low of 13,851.59 shedding 112.67 points thereafter. Banking and oil &gas stocks declined, while metal stocks were in demand. Asian markets were mixed. Key benchmark indices in Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and Hong Kong were up by 0.30 per cent to 0.71 per cent. Key indices in China and Singapore were down by 0.71 per cent to 0.74 per cent. Backhome, the broader-based S&P CNX Nifty index of National Stock Exchange was trading slightly down in the red at 4,150, down by seven points.

The BSE Mid-Cap index was up by 0.49 per cent at 5,497.33, while the Small-Cap index was down by 0.68 per cent at 6,836.15.

Reliance Industries declined 0.53 per cent at Rs 2,069.10, while Infosys Technologies rose by 0.32 per cent at Rs 1,827, ICICI Bank declined 1.19 per cent at Rs 614.50.

The top Sensex gainers were, DLF climbed 4.32 per cent at Rs 469.90), Tata Steel up by 3.64 per cent at Rs 702.60, Reliance Communication was up by 2.11 per cent at Rs 449.80, Housing Development and Finance Corporation was up by 2.05 per cent at Rs 2,137.90 and Wipro gained 1.87 per cent at Rs 441.80.

Whereas, Hindalco Industries declined 1.13 per cent at Rs 144, ITC down 0.46 per cent at Rs 182.70, Jaiprakash Associates down by 0.49 per cent at Rs 172.40 and Ranbaxy Laboratories down by 0.27 per cent at Rs 535.55, were the index losers.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were net buyers of Rs 719.66 crore in the futures&options segment July 9, 2008. They were net buyers of index futures to the tune of Rs 383.26 crore and bought index options worth Rs 136.49 crore. They were net buyers of stock futures to the tune of Rs 177.73 crore and purchased stock options worth Rs 22.18 crore.
