Rs 50 lakh robbery in Sainik Farm house
New Delhi, Jul 10 (UNI) In the continuing saga of spiralling crime in the capital, a house in posh Sainik Farm area of south Delhi was robbed with intruders decamping with cash and valuables worth nearly Rs 50 lakhs.
However, police said the robbery was around Rs 12 lakh.
Intruders sneaked-in after removing the window grill and seived through almirahs, lockers and drawers before fleeing with ornaments and cash worth lakhs.
Owner of the house Jatish Virmani (58) later said the incident took place between 0030 and 0300 hrs when he woke up hearing some noise.
Moving out of his bedroom he saw his belongings scattered in the adjacent dressing rooms where the almirahs and lockers were placed.
About Rs two lakh in cash, gold and diamond jewellery, silver utensils -- mostly family silver -- worth between 40-50 lakhs were taken by the robbers, he said adding they even took away money kept in the pocket of a trouser in the room.
Seven people, including his wife Manju (54), two sons, their wives and a grand daughter, were present in the house when the robbery took place.
Jatish's mother had gone yesterday to stay with her other son in Noida.
Virmanis have a car accessories business in Noida and a compressor factory in Anand Parvat.
