Bangalore, Jul 10(UNI) The opposition Congress in Karantaka suffered yet another jolt when film actor turned politician Jaggesh resigned to Legislative Assembly post and joined the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today.
Mr Jaggesh, who was elected to the Legislative Assembly from Thuruvekere in the recent elections was the third Congress MLA to resign and join the BJP.
He was admitted into the BJP party fold.
Mr Jaggesh had earlier submitted his resignation to the Speaker Jagadish Shettar, who announced accepting the same.
With the resignation of Jaggesh the Congress strength in the 225-member Karantaka assembly was reduced to 77 followed by JD(S) 26 and BJP 110, Independents 06 and one nominated.
Defending his decision, Mr Jaggesh said that he was fed up with the party's (Congress) poor leadership and lack of vision. He also expressed his desire to contest the coming Lok Sabha elections in Tumkur district.
So far four legislators, two each from JD(S) and Congress, have joined BJP after resigning to their assembly seats.
