Mangalore, Jul 10 (UNI) After the fulfillment of the long standing demand of High Court Bench at Dharwar and Gulburga to benefit the people of Northern Karnataka, it is now the turn of the people of Coastal and Malnad districts who have raised their voice for setting up of similar Bench in Mangalore.
Urging the need for setting up Circuit Bench, Mangalore Bar Association President S P Chengappa said that the region comprising Daxina Kannada, Udupi, Kodagu and Chikmagalore Districts has over 6000 lawyers. The region also comprised of majority number of labourers, agriculturists and a number of industries were established in the rural parts of the region.
He said that with the rise in the prices of petrol and diesel, it has become too expensive and time consuming for the people from the region to travel to Bangalore to fight their pending cases in the High Court. This has called the urgent need for setting up of a Bench of the High Court in Mangalore for the speedy disposal of the cases pending.
According former Mangalore Bar Association President Kallige Taranath Shetty large number of cases pertaining to land dispute were still pending for disposal. Over 20,000 files pertaining to the undivided Daxina Kannada district alone were still pending. Setting up of the High Court Bench will enable not only enables early clearance of pending files but also help in redresses of the mental agony of the litigant public from the region, he said.
Mr Chengappa said that the Bar would also pressurize all Ministers from the state including the Chief Minister for setting of a Bench of the Supreme Court in Bangalore following number of cases from Karnataka in the Apex Court were fast increasing.
