Meeting held to take stock of drought-like situation in Nashik
Nashik, Jul 10 (UNI) The administration here today held a meeting to take stock of the drought-like situation in the district.
The meeting was chaired by District Guardian Minister Chhagan Bhujbal.
In the meeting, issues such as preservation of water in dams for drinking purposes, immediate beginning of Employment Guarantee Scheme (EGS) works, planning for water supply by tankers and availability of fodder were discussed.
Interacting with journalists later, Mr Bhujbal said he gave instructions to the authorities to do all the preparatory work for implementation of all the discussed things.
At present, 67 villages, 20 'wadis' (small settlements) in the district are getting water supply by 24 tankers. Last year, the district had received 50 per cent of the average rainfall till this time, whereas this year, it has received only 15 per cent of rainfall. The dams in the district are only 21 per cent filled, whereas last year they were overflowing, the Minister added.
Barring Igatpuri, Peth, Surgana and Trimbakeshwar talukas, other parts of the district need second sowing.
Meanwhile, the city and adjoining areas received rains today.
