Jamshedpur. Jul 10 (UNI) The Jharkhand Dishom Party today called for gheraoing the Raj Bhawan on July 14, demanding probe into the death of social activist Tapas Soren by pressing for the governor's direct intervention.
Soren succumbed to burns in a New Delhi Hospital after attempting self immolation in Charahi of Hazaribag district alleging corruption in the government run National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS).
Addressing the media here, JDP president Salkhan Murmu said his party demanded a CBI inquiry into Soren's death, compensation of Rs ten lakh to his family, a government job to his dependent as well as free education for his two children. Alleging that the Koda government was part of a big corruption racket, he said it was showing "double standard" in the Soren case.
He said while the government had ordered a CBI probe into the death of former minister Ramesh Singh Munda, allegedly killed by naxalites yesterday, it seemed averse to recommending the same in this regard.
''Soren was compelled to die by the corrupt system and it should not be taken lightly. The culprits should be brought to book.'' he said, adding Tapas should be accorded a national martyr status.
The JDP president also felt that there was ''complete jungle-raj'' in Jharkhand, adding that the Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha should be held responsible for it.
''Leaders of both the parties are issuing statements alleging failure of the Koda government on many fronts, but they are also continuing support to the goverment. If the Congress and JMM are really concerned about the situation, they should withdraw support to clear the way for fresh elections, which seems to be the sole way to save the state from the clutches of corruption,'' he elaborated.
